Handout CD's & DVD's

Ok folks we just got a lightscribe that lets us burn labels on to CD's & DVDS.

Time to start brainstorming on what kind of media we want to hand out

of DVD's and :"Green Party Leaders"

I have to question the paradigm behind "green party leaders," because, as I see it, the GP exists to empower people, not to empower its "leaders," and every GP member needs to have his or her own understanding of what the GP means to him/her, rather than fall into lockstep behind some "leader," who, unless she or he happens to be a perfect Buddha, is going to prove just as fallible as anyone else. To me, the strength of the GP is its collective vision, not charismatic individuals.

As for a DVD, I can only speak for myself, but I have quite a collection of "must-see" DVDs that I have never watched, because I seem to be too involved in real, interactive life to watch television. A DVD would also tend to enshrine certain people as leaders and spokespersons, which, again, I think is counter to the paradigm shift we are working towards.

An idea for a DVD might be Q&A

Many people who I talk to about the Green party have preconceived and misconceived ideas. It would be nice to have average citizen ask a question, and then have GP "experts" answer. Mabe even several answers for the one question. Especially the one that we may never get out from under. the 2000 loss for Al Gore. If someone has quick thorough explanations for that....

One thing people seem to forget is that the votes, belong to people and people can give them to whomever they wish. Any votes given to Nader were HIS. Besides the fact that Bush cheated.

If we could get a video like this together we could do things like the multi-level marketers do. Go to people's homes and play the video.

Green "Expert" Answers

I completely agree that something like that would be very useful. Not only does the whole Gore thing come up all the time, but I frequently get something along the lines of "how does it feel to not count" or, "aren't you wasting your time since you won't win anyhow," etc. etc. etc.

How about a YouTube series of a Q&A session? Keep refining it on YouTube till it's question-proof, then make a nice DVD. A "why vote Green Party" kinda thing, along with what the Green Party's about, etc. etc.

Also maybe a written list of Q&A for new Green Party members that they can download or view online.

An additional strategy might be to make a supportive or introductory DVD on Why a Third Party is Needed (I tend to think most people agree), and do a GENERAL - not green-party centered at first - dvd on why we need a third party. Then give an outline of the beliefs of ALL parties, then of course emphasize the Green Party with a Green Party "extra" at the end, but the dvd gives the view an overall educational view of the two-party problem and what they can do about it. Maybe also list negatives and positives of each party? And how parties can use Independent ballot in the voting process? Of course, the above DVD could be a "part 2" or something. Oooo how about a miniseries? Then go onto a 3rd DVD with maybe showing the people who are green party and in elected positions. (Although that will be necessary to keep updated at a certain point), and a history of who "made" the Green Party what it is today.

Also, maybe something to submit to high school seniors turning voting age or are involved in environmentally beneficial extra-curricular activities. Maybe send to high schools along with voter registration form (prefilled with Green Party if it's legal to do that).

I think most young people think the whole democrat and republican parties are a farce. They want fresh, honest, caring and globally responsible - and that makes the Green Party very attractive - especially in these days of a revolting spirit. This idea also works for college students.

Not bad idea

I'd point to study by the news outlets that show when you count all the votes in 2000, Gore won.
Or point to data showing more Dems crossed over to republican in Fla. than to greens.
Add to that a pitch for IRV.
