Instant Pot IP-DUO60 Electric Pressure Cooker Review

The Instant Pot IP-DUO60 Programmable Pressure Cooker is the third generation in the Instant Pot product line, and reviewers say it just keeps getting better. While the second generation model -- the 6-in-1 -- was highly versatile, this model also makes yogurt in addition to its other cooking functions. The Instant Pot IP-DUO60 is the 6-quart version; it also comes in a 5-quart version, the IP-DUO50.

Highly versatile and a top performer. Reviewers are almost unanimous in their love for the Instant Pot IP-DUO60 Programmable Pressure Cooker. Many wonder how they lived without it, saying it perfectly cooks meat, risotto, vegetables, and many more foods. They also note that it cooks so quickly that they can start food cooking when they get home from work and sit down to dinner in 40 minutes or less. Quite a few owners say that it works as well as a rice cooker and slow cooker as it does as a pressure cooker, which saves them both storage space and the financial outlay of buying three or more appliances. It also steams, sautés, browns and warms -- and users say it does all very well. Many bought it just for its yogurt making feature and they are thrilled with the results.

Ease of use
A learning curve. The instruction book that comes with the Instant Pot IP-DUO60 Programmable Pressure Cooker isn't very helpful, say owners, and it can take some practice to learn how to use this appliance; however, all say that it's worth the time and effort. Many also note that you can download recipe books and instruction manuals on the Internet, as well as find videos that walk you through learning to use the Instant Pot. Those who have used a pressure cooker in the past seem to have fewer issues, and they say that pressure cooking always has a learning curve that needs to be mastered to figure out the right amounts of liquid and pressure. The Instant Pot is reported as easy to clean and the stainless steel cooking pot is dishwasher safe. It has a lid rest on the pot, something many reviewers appreciate.

Very few complaints. The Instant Pot IP-DUO60 Programmable Pressure Cooker was released in 2014, so we don't have a good overview of this specific model's durability at the time this review was created. However, we found very few complaints of breakage or performance issues. In addition, we saw many reviews about the previous generation of the Instant Pot, with owners saying it's still going strong after a couple of years. The exterior is plastic and brushed stainless, the inner pot is a 3-ply, food grade stainless steel; something that's unique in electric pressure cookers -- most are coated with nonstick material, which turns off those who are trying to avoid chemical coatings. It comes with a one-year warranty. Electric pressure cookers are safe compared to the pressure cookers of years ago, and the Instant Pot is among the safest.
